Area Agencies on Aging Print E-mail
Southeast Michigan is served by three Area Agencies on Aging, which are non-profit agencies committed to helping older adults live in the setting of their choice.

Area Agencies on Aging provide public funding to a network of mostly non-profit organizations. These organizations, in turn, provide community-based supportive services for adults age 60 and older, as well as support for family caregivers and adults with disabilities.  Area Agencies on Aging are a great place to start in the search for answers to questions about senior services and caregiving. They offer a comprehensive information and referral service by phone. The services they support for needy seniors include the following:
  • Home-delivered meals
  • Congregate meal sites at locations such as senior centers
  • Personal care such as bathing and grooming assistance
  • Light housekeeping
  • In-home respite for family caregivers
  • Adult day care centers
  • Medicare, Medicaid, health, and long-term care insurance counseling
  • Household chores such as snow removal and lawn care
  • Legal assistance
  • Care management
  • MI Choice, a community-based alternative to nursing home care
